First of all, let me preface this entry by saying that I'm a Trekker from WAY back!!! So much so that I have a tattoo of the Enterprise NCC 1701-D (see below) and have been a member of not one, but two different fan organizations devoted to public service in the memory of what Gene Roddenbury created with the series.

( There will be some spoilers from here on out so be warned!!! )

I have just watched one of the most amazing things that I have ever had the privilege to witness. Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States. Change has come to Washington and I hope with all my heart that the new President gets the co-operation necessary to make his plans come to fruition.
I stood in the break room at work with my boss, the owner of the company I work for who is a very staunch Republican, and watched the events unfold. During the campaign he supported John McCain just as vehemently as I supported President Obama, but there was a respect that hung in the air from both of us as the President started to speak. The feeling was amazing and pure and just a little liberating to experience. My company has been pretty hard hit from the recent economic struggles in the country and I know that my boss has make some tough decisions as well as some personal sacrifices in order to keep the company going. I felt that I connected with him a little in the last hour and that’s kind of astonishing.
President Obama spoke with such eloquence. It’s all kind of a blur right now so I don’t remember any of the specifics other than it was very patriotic and inspiring. I think that it is a speech that I would love to have a copy of so reread through the years, it was that good!
I just wanted to get down some thoughts on my impressions so I wouldn’t bore you long. I want all my friends and family to know how amazing it was and how hopeful I am for the future of the country. May the United States always have a bright future!
